After commencing his career in mixed practice in the Hunter Valley of NSW, Alan moved to Grafton in 1982 with a passion for rural mixed practice and formed a partnership to purchase the South Grafton Veterinary Clinic from Dr Rene Fenech, which he operated from for the next 10 years before purchasing the practice. His special interest lies in equine sports medicine for Performance Horses and all the areas that it encompasses; including equine podiatry, nutrition, dentistry, acupuncture & chiropractic, lameness evaluation, endoscopy & diagnostic imaging. As well as being an Accredited Race Day Officiating Veterinarian, he is an accredited head veterinarian for AERA endurance rides and has been vetting at these events for 30 years. In 1999 he established the Equine Breeding Unit as part of the Grafton Veterinary Clinic, so as to provide local broodmare owners access to chilled & frozen AI, and other reproductive services.
After graduating from a Bachelor Of Veterinary Science at James Cook University in Townsville, North Queensland in 2011, Joe returned to working in Victoria where he has treated a variety of small and large animals. Joe’s knowledge is extensive and the ‘scientist’ in Joe loves a challenge. So, when Joe is not in the Clinic discovering new cures and diseases, he can be found either under the bonnet of a car, or with his wife and children exploring what the Clarence Valley has to offer.
Tamara grew up in QLD on a small cattle property, thus she enjoys all areas of mixed practice. Tamara has worked in rural mixed practice in Tenterfield and Charleville since graduating from University of Queensland in 2015. Tamara joined our experienced team in October 2020 and has brought a variety of skills that have complimented this veterinary practice.
Tamara is an accredited Australian Cattle Vet (ACV) pregnancy tester, and is also accredited for ACV Bull Breeding Soundness Evaluations. She has attended a post-graduate course in equine dentistry. She also enjoys equine reproduction and small animal surgery.In her spare time, Tamara enjoys going to the beach with her dachshunds; Gertrude and Wally, while Ronald the cat guards the home.
Tirelessly working for the Grafton Veterinary Clinic filling many roles for over 30 years. A jack of all trades, Gai has worked as a veterinary nurse, trainer and mentor, receptionist and client liaison manager. She has a passion for excellence and loves assisting and meeting clients’ needs.
Gabby is a true local to the Clarence Valley and seems to know just about everyone around town! Gabby is one our equine nurses, meaning you will often find her working along side Dr Alan Giles, assisting him with his equine consultations. When not working, Gabby enjoys the outdoors, camping, horse riding & spending quality time with her family.
Racheal knows Grafton as her home and has a long relationship with the clinic. Starting off with school work experience all the way to completing her veterinary nursing certificates. Rachael is a valuable member of our team. Rachael loves being on the land, having grown up on a farm she also has many pets of her own; horses, dogs, cats & poultry. Rachael loves being a veterinary nurse and finds it very rewarding.
Kim joined our team in 2012, bringing with her a decade of experience with companion and farm animals. She has a menagerie of pets, including her "babies" (Foxies) that you will see every now and then sleeping under her desk. You may also see Zac, her rescue staffy who loves a chat and scratch.
Bianca joined our team at Grafton Veterinary Clinic in 2013 and has been nursing for nine years. Bianca is a valuable asset to our team, taking pride and love in her work. Bianca enjoys country life, with her husband and fur babies (two dogs and a cockatiel). In her spare time you can find Bianca out in her garden doing yoga or getting creative with macrame.
Kylie completed her Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing with us, graduating in September 2019. When she’s not working you can often find her at the beachn with her Staffordshire Terrier & Golden Retriever. At home she has a “few” more pets, two talkative cockatiels, four mischievous rabbits, a flock of chickens & a range of fresh water fish to keep her busy. Kylie had always dreamt of working with animals. You could say, she’s quite literally living the dream.
Temika originally started off at Grafton Veterinary Clinic as a workplace student & graduated certificate IV in veterinary nursing in 2021. She has now been with us for approximately 6 years. Temika has 2 cats of her own and proudly self-titled herself as a “crazy” cat lady. Small animals within the clinic are her fortè but she is always inquisitive about large animals. Growing up with an array of pets, it has always been a dream and passion to work with animals.
Rachael joined our team in 2020, growing up on a cane farm surrounded by her own pets & wildlife she discovered her love for animals very early in life. Rachael completed a bachelors degree in wildlife science and has furthered her studies in becoming a veterinary nurse. Rachael owns horses, one dog & a cat. In her spare time, Rachael enjoys being outdoors, riding her horses, playing sport & visiting the beach.
Jess joined the Grafton Vet Nursing team this year, bringing with her a
lifetime of experience with horses, and a passion for racing and all large
animal sports. Jess loves working with animals of all shapes and sizes, but
she is especially interested in large animal work and always jumps at the
opportunity of working on our large animal appointments. At home Jess has
a gorgeous Pointer called Moose, and a racehorse called Hunni.
After 4 years in the industry Shannon has joined the Grafton Vet team as an Veterinary Nurse, bringing with her the experience and enthusiasm to make a difference in the lives of her patients. After work you might find Shannon at the local Pony Club or Campdraft, indulging her love of equine sports.
Jandi joined our team as a work placement student in 2022 and proudly graduated with her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in 2024. With a lifelong passion for animals, both big and small, she knew she wanted to dedicate her life to helping them. Jandi is a devoted pet parent to her beloved bearded dragon, Indie, and her cherished cat, Gracie, who both hold a special place in her heart. Her enthusiasm for animal care and her compassionate nature make her a valued member of our team.
